This Valfaris Demo Runs Entirely In-Browser

New tech allows for in-browser game experiences without streaming.

If you’re not familiar with the brutally heavy-metal-themed 2D action-platformer Valfaris, developer Big Sugar have made it even easier to give the game a test drive with this wild in-browser demo that runs locally on your browser (Chrome or Firefox).

The demo is “100% web based, requiring no additional tools, add-ons or extensions.”

The demo installs a small portion of itself upfront, then proceeds to download assets as needed; this is not streaming.

The tech comes courtesy of Latin American digital game store Nuuvem and has the potential to make quite an impact in how games are shared, experienced, and promoted moving forward. Though fully-3d games with high-definition assets may be out of the question, sharing experiences like Valfaris could be a literal game changer, allowing for instant-play experiences across stores like Steam, GOG, or even social media and messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, and more.
