RPG Maker MZ Hits Steam this Summer

Build an epic, fight monsters, all without knowing a lick of programming.

It’s sort of amazing how easy it is to make your own game these days. Well, RPG Maker MZ just adds to that by coming to Steam later this summer and giving users the tools to build a classic, very old-schooly-JRPGish experience.

Hailing originally from Japan, where it’s known as “RPG TsukÅ«ru,” this suite of tools doesn’t expect any programming knowledge from the user and comes with a wide variety of art, sound, and even music to dive right in.

The Steam page details a wide array of features for character design, map editing, event design, and even supports plug-ins in case there’s something extra you’re looking for.

It even runs on Mac, so now I have this fantasy of tossing a copy on my MacBook and designing an RPG from a coffee shop–in an alternate universe where there wasn’t a pandemic and I was actually capable of following through with exotic dreams like that. Oh well…

There’s no set date yet, but you can wishlist it (which is the cool new way to pre-order without spending money or pre-ordering anything, in fact) on Steam. Check a look.
